Energy cafés save thousands for local residents

Energy Cafe

Local people saved thousands of pounds on their energy bills during a series of pop-up cafés during summer 2015.

The highest individual energy bill saving was £780 a year during the three week campaign that provided residents in Parklands (Chichester), Tangmere and Sompting with free, independent advice and help with bill checking and energy switching.

Cllr Louise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council said: "The energy café created a real buzz at the heart of the community and I'm delighted to see that many residents benefited from the free advice on offer to save a significant amount of money on their energy bills. We should all check our energy tariff on a regular basis to make sure we are getting the best deal."

Ollie Pendered is the Director of Communities Matter who ran the energy cafes with Your Energy Sussex. He said: "Many people who visited us saved over £400 through switching their energy tariffs.

"I hope that the work we have taken will encourage people at home to have a close look at their energy bills and get the right energy tariff that suits them - consider their annual kilowatt hour usage and their particular tariffs.  An average family home should use 3500kWh of electricity and 13500kWh of gas."

Your Energy Sussex continues to work with Sussex communities to help residents live in warm and energy efficient homes and save money on their energy bills.
